CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester officer spotted a car linked to a gunpoint carjacking on the north side and pursued it until the vehicle crashed on Joseph Avenue near Weyl Street around 4 p.m. on Wednesday—two civilians riding in the struck vehicles were hospitalized with minor injuries while three suspects were taken into custody.  ABC 13
  • On March 5, Rotterdam police arrested Michel Garcia Rojas and Maria Duque-Muriel after cameras at a Hannaford store caught them hiding grocery items worth $159.07 in a stroller, and officers then called ICE under the Laken Riley Law—making this one of its first tests in upstate New York.  WXXI News
  • Two teens were accused of firing shots in the 19th Ward and led police on a chase when their car did not pull over and crashed at Fromm Place and Bay Street on Tuesday night — police arrested the suspects after a foot chase and the other car’s driver was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.  News 10
  • Quintel Crockton, convicted for fatally beating Terran Felder at a Jay Street convenience store in 2023, was sentenced to 23 years in prison — his sentence also includes five years of post-release supervision.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Rachel Remmel, a relative of a patient involved in Medical Aid in Dying, spoke out as New York lawmakers approved a bill that would let terminally ill patients end their lives and now awaits Governor Hochul's signature—she recalled her brother Ethan, who had stage 4 colon cancer and chose to use the process in Washington to ease his pain.  Spectrum News
