  • On Friday, June 6, 2025, Greater Rochester Habitat for Humanity hosted a dedication ceremony and home tour on Chamberlain Street—marking a key partnership with Avangrid Foundation, Bank of America and Wegmans to complete its new Beechwood neighborhood home.   • Local law enforcement members carried a flame of hope during a Torch Run on Friday that stretched just over three miles from Cobbs Hill Park to Parcel 5. The event united Special Olympics athletes and law enforcers, and the Special Summer Games — scheduled for June 20 and 21 at Ithaca College — will host over 1,200 athletes and coaches.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Avon’s former police chief Joseph Geer pleaded guilty to stealing federal funds by billing for unworked school resource officer hours and was sentenced to two years probation by Judge Wolford—he repaid the full amount of $6,866.84. Geer, a Caledonia resident who was suspended without pay before resigning, was replaced by Robert Tygart as chief in March.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester police charged a 23-year-old man with first-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon after he fatally shot Delwin Aponte-Charbonier at a Ward Street home last week—detectives recovered a .40 caliber handgun, three loaded high-capacity magazines, and additional evidence while the suspect, who turned himself in with his attorney on Thursday, is scheduled for arraignment Friday at 9:30 a.m. with further charges possible by a Monroe County grand jury.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester police conducted an illegal off-road vehicle detail on March 12 — towing 16 illegal dirt bikes, 2 ATVs and recovering one stolen motorcycle — and issued 88 traffic citations while arresting 7 people.  ABC 13
