  • NYC Crepes & Shakes, a new dessert and food cafe, will open on June 1 at 738 E. Ridge Road in Irondequoit and will serve daily from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m. First-time owner Omid Sadat, with a background in government service and community work, said the cafe will offer crepes, shakes, breakfast items, tea, and juice made with fresh, organic ingredients.  Rochester First

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man, 44-year-old Robert Johnson, broke into a home on Willow Street near Dewey Avenue around 9:40 p.m. on May 25 and shot a 32-year-old woman multiple times during a domestic dispute, prompting police to charge him with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree robbery, second-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree grand larceny—he turned himself in on Wednesday and was arraigned Thursday morning in City Court without bail.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Dave Ackerman fights to keep killer Gregory Flint behind bars—Flint, who murdered 8-year-old Staci Ackerman in Farmington on September 11, 1986—as his first parole hearing is scheduled for July with a possible release set for November 14.  News 10
  • A Rochester man was arrested after a standoff on the Thruway when he pointed a gun at troopers at 2:45 a.m. on Thursday—forcing officials to close the road between Exits 45 and 46—and he faces charges for criminal possession of a weapon, menacing an officer and obstructing governmental administration.  Rochester First
  • TikTok star Emilie Kiser filed a lawsuit in Arizona Superior Court on May 27th to block public records about her 3-year-old son Trigg’s accidental drowning on May 12th at her family home—she contends that releasing these records would further invade her family's privacy during their grief.  Rochester First
  • Rochester police said 44-year-old Robert Johnson turned himself in after a domestic incident on Willow Street on May 25—he shot a 32-year-old woman and now faces charges including attempted murder, burglary, robbery, and weapons violations with a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The George Eastman Museum announced the film titles for the ninth annual Nitrate Picture Show at the Dryden Theatre on May 29, drawing international cinephiles to the event. The four-day festival—screening original nitrate prints of films produced from the 1910s to 1960s—offers a unique look at early Hollywood cinema.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Starting July 1, school boards and BOCES boards in New York will be required to include a student representative who must have attended their school for at least one year — a move that follows Maine-Endwell's practice of including a student member since 2004. Students will be chosen by the high school principal, superintendent or by an election held among their peers.  Spectrum News

  • Today, Rochester Regional Health is partnering with the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce's Greater ROC Global program to attract 60 to 100 skilled nurses amid a staffing shortage.
