ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rochester Police have closed Lake Avenue north of Magee Avenue after two cars collided when one drifting south hit a car traveling north—one driver, a woman, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries while the other was taken as a precaution.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday night around 11:19 p.m., Rochester Police, the Fire Department & AMR ambulance responded to a business on Lake Avenue where they found a dead body behind the building and the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office later took the body to investigate the unattended death.  News 10
  • Terry Britt, charged for leaving a hit-and-run that hurt a 12-year-old boy, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to criminal possession of a weapon+ and faces sentencing on August 5 as he will return Monday for the hit-and-run case+.  ABC 13
  • Rochester Police said a silver sedan intentionally struck two men walking near the intersection of Lake and Ravine avenues on Wednesday at 6 p.m.—the driver left after an altercation—and both men were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  News 10
  • A woman was arrested Tuesday after she attempted to force her way into the Penfield Central School District office on Atlantic Avenue at around 8:45 a.m. by pushing a staff member—Monroe County sheriff’s deputies arrived and Superintendent Tasha Potter confirmed she is not leaving her post.  Democrat & Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Harley School students were selected for a NASA project to develop an ejecting robot. The team (Sol Sohn, Charlie Clark, and Henry Winchester) will work with NASA scientists in the coming weeks to finalize their design.  ABC 13
  • Today, about 130 students from Rochester city schools joined a program to create superhero comic books with the help of AI and teachers—organizers celebrated their work at Rochester Public Library, highlighting how sharing their stories builds confidence in overcoming challenges.  Spectrum News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On May 28, 2025, candidates Mary Lupien, Shashi Sinha and incumbent Malik Evans met in Rochester—debating issues like housing, public safety, economic growth and job access. The debate saw strong criticism of the Buy the Block program and differing views on the city’s sanctuary policy ahead of the June 24 primary.  WXXI News
  • RTS is proposing updates to its On Demand service that include a new no-show policy and fare increases starting Sept. 2025—after four years of operation supported by $1.7 million annually. The agency is seeking public feedback with a meeting today from 5:30—7 p.m. at Sweden/Clarkson Recreation Center and a public hearing on June 18.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Michael Arsenault (61) from Rochester rode past the Erie Canal in Fairport on May 28th as part of his 4,300-mile cross-country bike ride to raise money for mental health awareness in support of NAMI, and he rides about (60 miles per day) on his journey from Maine to Washington.  ABC 13
