  • On May 24 the community gathered at White Haven Memorial Park in Perinton for a ceremony titled 'A Time to Honor and Remember' to honor fallen servicemembers and their Gold Star families—marking the fourth annual event supporting local remembrance and unity.  ABC 13

CRIME NEWS

  • An 89-year-old woman was hit on Friday night in downtown Rochester when two cars chased each other at the corner of East Main Street and Swan Street—she was taken to Strong Hospital and both drivers in their 20s were ticketed for reckless driving.  News 10
  • Police continued the search Saturday for Jared Oswald, known as 'Bear,' who went missing six days ago after he was seen entering Turning Point Park along the Genesee River in Rochester, with family, friends, and local volunteers assisting from a command center at Abelard Reynolds School 42 — police ask anyone with information to call 911.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • The beloved Paddle and Pour Art Music Festival took place on May 24 in Pittsford and featured local artists, the Pittsford Regatta, live music and local wine, beers and eateries — drawing community members to enjoy a vibrant display of art and local flavor.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Caledonia-Mumford Central School District had its proposed budget rejected by voters on May 24 by a vote of 220-314—an outcome following a state audit that found the surplus fund was double the statutory limit and taxes levied were above operational needs. Superintendent Rebekha Chenaille said school leaders will adjust the budget by using more reserves instead of a higher tax levy—after also rejecting the bus purchase proposition—and a revote is scheduled for June.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Steve Momano, a Navy veteran, found that the World War II memorial at Blue Cross Arena was missing 78 names of local heroes—he discovered the oversight while checking records. Monroe County veteran Nick Stefanovic brought the error to Mayor Malik Evans, and the city will add a new plaque in the summer or on Veteran’s Day to honor them.  News 10
