  • On Saturday, hundreds ran in rainy, windy weather at Irondequoit United Church of Christ on Titus Ave for the Sunset House 5K Run and Walk, which raised over $30,000 to help fund free end-of-life care provided to more than 30 people annually.  News 10
  • Nearly 100 volunteers from the Fairport Veterans of Foreign Wars Post cleaned local cemeteries on Saturday along Wilkinson Road in Perinton to ensure veteran headstones look their best for Memorial Day — professional masons repaired damaged stones as part of a five-year project.  News 10
  • On May 22, The Arc Ontario’s JET program and partners, including American Legion Post 256, the Canandaigua Elks Club and local students, placed 500 American flags on veterans' graves at Woodlawn Cemetery in Canandaigua ahead of Memorial Day to honor service and learn flag traditions.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Kettle Cuisine recalled Whole Foods Market Kitchen Minestrone Soup (24-ounce plastic cup) after finding it may contain undeclared shrimp that poses a severe allergy risk.   • On Saturday, May 23, Hilton's softball team beat Spencerport 10-9 in a Section V Class AA1 quarterfinal despite the rain (five players shared insights after the game).  Democrat & Chronicle
  • The Finney Falcons and Bishop Kearney Kings clashed for the Section V Class C2 flag football championship yesterday at Gates Chili High. Finney finished with a 13-5 record while Kearney ended at 9-5, with the game beginning at 4 p.m.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Aquinas faced Hornell in the Section V Class C1 flag football championship at Gates Chili High on May 23. Hornell entered the game with a 13-0 record and No. 2 ranking, while Aquinas brought a 14-1 record and No. 11 ranking in its first varsity season.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Webster Schroeder and Webster Thomas met in the Section V Class B flag football championship at Gates Chili High on May 23. Schroeder had a 20-0 regular season win (boosting their championship hopes) while Thomas aimed for their first title victory.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • On May 23 at Polar Park, the Red Wings defeated the Worcester Red Sox 12-1 to extend their winning streak to seven games. Ortiz hit two homers — House tallied three RBIs as the team maintained first place in the International League East.  Democrat & Chronicle
