CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester man Peter Scott was arrested yesterday after being identified as the suspect in a December attack on a Norton Street porch that killed 76 year old Valeri Brintev—Brintev, who suffered from dementia and used a walker, was beaten repeatedly and Scott is held on $100,000 bail with a preliminary hearing set for tomorrow.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • A 27-year-old man named Kevin Whitman is facing charges for allegedly distributing controlled substances—mostly oxycodone—while posing as a physician by using a DEA number from Strong Memorial Hospital between August 2023 and April 2025, and officers found a fake diploma from the University of Rochester Medical School during a home search.  News 10
  • A man was injured when his home was broken into early Friday on Morton Street off Bay Street as police arrested two people, with a handgun used during the break-in (the 39-year-old victim sustained upper-body injuries) and he was taken to the hospital (he is expected to recover).  News 10

  • At Eastman Theatre on May 19, the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center celebrated its class of 2025 graduation as over 350 students received certificates for career training and academic programs and more than 1,000 friends and family attended.  ABC 13
