  • The Rochester community celebrated the first graduating class of the Deaf Community Emergency Responder Training Program — which provided essential disaster response skills to help the deaf and hard of hearing communicate with first responders during emergencies.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man, Michael Scott Jr. 22, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree manslaughter for fatal shootings in September 2022 and August 2023 — he received a 30-year sentence from state Supreme Court.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • A Rochester woman, 34-year-old Tashara Willis, was arraigned May 21st in Monroe County Court after she is accused of driving drunk, speeding over 80 mph, and causing a head-on crash on Clifford Avenue that killed Otis Johnson—she is also accused of carrying cocaine and is set to return to court on Aug. 5.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State health officials ordered about 75 senior citizens and people with disabilities to leave the East Danforth and Hudson Ridge towers because of immediate health risks in their long-term care program. Residents must vacate by next Wednesday — the Rochester Housing Authority said it is not evicting tenants despite facing $400,000 in back rent from Family Service Communities.  WXXI News
  • County Executive Adam Bello announced funding of $894,957 from ARPA to upgrade emergency response equipment for Monroe County EMS agencies during EMS Week from May 18—24—allocating funds to Penfield Volunteer Emergency Ambulance, Irondequoit Ambulance, Honeoye Falls-Mendon Volunteer Ambulance, and Gates Volunteer Ambulance Service. The projects include purchasing new ambulances, installing improved disinfection systems, and adding advanced monitoring equipment to increase patient and provider safety.  Spectrum News
  • Authorities are urging drivers to be extra careful this summer as holiday travel ramps up—experts note that the 100 Deadliest Days for Teen Drivers have seen rising fatal crash numbers.
