  • The 1% Run Club, a nonprofit formed by local Black runners, holds regular Saturday runs that boost health and build community.   • Eastview Mall in Victor welcomed two new retail spots as Newbury Comics opened in the former FYE space and Capital One Cafe launched outside Dick’s House of Sport, marking local firsts. Auntie Anne’s also expanded its footprint with a second storefront in the food court.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Gotham Halal, a food trailer on West Ridge Road in Greece, has become popular for its smash burgers, loaded fries and dirty sodas with about 200 orders daily. The founders plan a second trailer at 900 Jefferson Road in Henrietta in four to five weeks.  FOX Rochester

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Highland Park on Sunday night during the Lilac Festival closing, several people were removed for disruptive behavior when security closed entry 75 minutes early after reaching capacity. The festival continues to showcase free music + local vendors.  News 10

  • Candidates held a news conference Monday urging state and federal leaders to pause gas taxes + possibly lowering Rochester’s $4.59 per gallon price by up to 52 cents. Rising fuel costs ahead of Memorial Day travel prompt officials to explore a tax suspension.  News 10

  • Lilliana Curtis, a junior at Aquinas Institute, is being honored for volunteering over 80 hours tutoring elementary school students in Rochester as part of the Do the Right Thing awards by the Rochester Police Department. Her volunteer work highlights her commitment to giving back.  News 10

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Energy officials advise keeping your thermostat at 78°F to help save energy during hot summer days. Homeowners across Rochester are also encouraged to schedule AC maintenance and seal leaks — steps that can improve efficiency and curb electric bills.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • A bald eagle chick at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge is growing quickly, eating, flapping, and preparing for its first flight later this summer, refuge staff say. The live nest camera — located at the Casey Road visitor center — captures the eaglet sharpening its skills.  Democrat & Chronicle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Taelynn Rotan overcame Type 3B intestinal atresia after emergency surgery + weeks of critical care, and Golisano Children's Hospital noted her progress in June 2024. Her recovery shows a team effort and her resilience as she began living normally.  ABC 13
  • Tommy Klein, featured in the Miracle Kids series at Rochester Regional Health and Golisano Children’s Hospital, showed progress through the play-based autism intervention called JASPER. His breakthrough came when he said 'I love you' for the first time, highlighting the program's impact on local families.  ABC 13
