  • Brook-Lea Country Club celebrated its 100th anniversary on Saturday with a Governor’s Ball where members enjoyed a live piano performance, drinks and historic photos — the first event in a series planned through summer and next spring.  News 10
  • Hamlin Public Library’s summer book sale has $1 books, puzzles, and DVDs. It runs June 4 to 6: Thursday’s hours at 10 a.m. — 7 p.m., Friday’s at 10 a.m. — 3 p.m., and Saturday’s at 10 a.m. — 1 p.m. at the Meeting Room on 1680 Lake Road, Hamlin.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • On Saturday afternoon, community partners and local kids painted the intersection of Genesee Park Boulevard and Pioneer Street with vibrant, seasonal colors to improve safety—neighbors added crosswalk designs to address frequent crashes.  News 10
  • On Sunday, May 17, community members gathered in Gates for the second annual Hearts for Heroes event, which supported veterans and children by directing proceeds to the Veterans Outreach Center and the Children’s Free Care Fund — Operation Freedom Ride brought rescued dogs to the celebration.  News 10

  • Nazareth University held its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 16 in Pittsford and awarded an honorary degree to the Sisters of Saint Joseph to recognize their long-standing service and commitment to the institution.  ABC 13
  • Penfield superintendent Tasha Potter said she is saddened by hateful messages aimed at her team (including AI-generated images and name-calling) and urged the community to act respectfully to maintain a safe environment for school staff.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Breast Cancer Confidence Project hosted its third annual Pinkleball fundraiser event Saturday at Dinkers Pickleball Campus in East Rochester to raise awareness and funds for survivor support programs aimed at rebuilding confidence and positive body image.  ABC 13
  • 9-year-old Paige Smith (a feature of the Miracle Kids series by Rochester Regional Health and Golisano Children’s Hospital) beat Stage IV Wilms tumor after a 13-month battle and is now cancer-free. She will have follow-up scans every three to four months to ensure her lasting health.  ABC 13
