  • Brothers Brennan and Luke Carney from Gates-Chili are being honored after using CPR and first aid training to help an altar server who fainted last December at St. Pius X Church — the award is part of this year’s Do the Right Thing program run by the Rochester Police Department.  News 10
  • The Car Club of Rochester + Gigi's Playhouse are hosting The Drive 2026, a charity auto event that supports free programs for people with Down syndrome; the event will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 7 in Rochester and will be rescheduled to the following Sunday if it rains.  ABC 13
  • Brighton Volunteer Ambulance will host its Public Safety Family Fair on Sunday, May 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. at 1551 Winton Road South — retired EMT Michael Pollock explained the fair is part of National EMS Week celebrating local safety efforts.  FOX Rochester

  • Abbott's Frozen Custard celebrated its 100th anniversary after starting as a stand on Lake and Beach Avenues in 1926. The business now operates over 40 locations in seven states and Japan.  ABC 13

  • Visual Studies Workshop selected two emerging local photographers for its three-month residency; Maryel Pryce (RIT graduate) will begin in June while Louis Ressel (commercial photographer) will start in the fall, with both receiving stipends and workroom access.  Rochester Beacon
  • Two events explore the Revolution's impact on Native Americans, one titled 'Whose Revolution? Whose Freedom?' on May 28 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the Central Library’s Kate Gleason Auditorium — livestream available, and a talk on June 7 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at the Pittsford Community Library.  Democrat & Chronicle

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lake Ontario is predicted to reach flood stage by Friday, May 22 when its level may hit 247.3 feet (as heavy rainfall and reduced natural inflow contribute) and local lakeshore communities are preparing with sandbags and pumps.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester Regional Health graduated 18 new peace officers Friday at Rochester General Hospital — the program, enabled by Gov. Hochul’s 2024 legislation, gives officers expanded authority to handle emergencies and will pilot at RGH starting June 1. The initiative aims to strengthen on-site response after recent security incidents.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • UR Medicine launched its second mobile stroke unit on Friday, May 15 right here in Rochester & it brings hospital-level stroke care to patients with a CT scanner, telehealth, and lab equipment that connects with experts for fast treatment.  ABC 13
  • Ontario County health officials reported a locally acquired hantavirus case in Hopewell today (with no connection to the cruise ship outbreak) and advise using masks and gloves when cleaning areas where rodent droppings may be present.  NewsRadio WHAM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Rochester Red Wings lost 6-3 to the IronPigs on May 15 at ESL Ballpark after an early lead faded when the bullpen allowed insurance runs in the middle innings. The loss dropped the team's record to 22-20 while Lehigh Valley improved their standing.  Democrat & Chronicle
