  • A mother and daughter reunited yesterday at Watermark Legacy at Clover Blossom after 50 years apart and said the reunion was priceless. Clover Blossom noted the experience highlights how social ties boost healthy living.  ABC 13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tops Friendly Markets reported its best-selling store-brand items now come from local New York suppliers (including eggs from Wolcott and cottage cheese from Lancaster) to support state farmers and producers, according to director Andrea Weeke from Northeast Shared Services.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Trader Joe’s has agreed to settle a class action suit over printed card numbers and will offer about $102 per affected customer who shopped between Mar. 5 and July 19, 2019 (including several upstate stores) while claims must be filed by June 9.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • News10NBC's Lynette Adams interviewed community leaders yesterday, including Tom Rogers, the new ESL Federal Credit Union president; Morgan Tota and Mike (who founded a new group supporting mothers in hospital); Linda James about a free caregiver event; and Jenny Lomaglio on the upcoming Lilac Festival at Highland Park.  News 10

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ruby-throated hummingbirds have begun arriving in New York as early sightings were reported in Putnam County on April 9 and in Rochester on April 27. Experts suggest homeowners plant red, tubular flowers (like lantana and salvia) to attract the birds.  Democrat & Chronicle

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Village of Rushville issued a boil water notice at 5 a.m. Saturday due to a water main break, so residents must boil water for one minute & let it cool before use. The notice is expected to end by Tuesday or Wednesday.  News 10
  • Manufacturers are recalling Good & Gather Mexican Street Corn sold at Target and nut mixes from Southern Style Nuts, Fisher and Squirrel Brand due to salmonella concerns; tests of the seasoning returned negative, and the recall is precautionary.  News 10

  • Local grill owners are advised to clean grates with a wire brush after every use and deep clean their grills at least once a year to remove residue and prevent rust; these steps help prepare grills for Memorial Day + July 4 cookouts.  Democrat & Chronicle
