CULTURE NEWS

  • The Lilac Festival in Rochester will open at Highland Park on Friday at 10:30 a.m. and run for 10 days with live music, rides, and food—vendors are preparing special Kid Zone areas—and attendees 17 or younger must be with a parent due to a new bag ban.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester has appealed a court ruling that stripped nearly all powers from the Police Accountability Board—challenging limits on the board’s role in investigating officer misconduct. Mancuso Brightman filed the appeal on Friday and City Council will vote this month on extending their legal contract, which would raise legal spending to $75,000.  WXXI News
  • Last week, the city sued landlord Tal Levi for letting 13 properties fall into disrepair with 536 code violations, 388 of which remain unfixed. The lawsuit seeks fines of $500 per day for each unresolved violation — nearly $200,000 per day total — and stops him from selling any property until the issues are fixed.  WXXI News
