- ➤ A report from Humane World for Animals names 11 New York puppy mill breeders for poor conditions—four in Steuben County and others in Suffolk, Yates, Ulster, Montgomery, Seneca, Wayne and Jefferson counties—and urges the public to adopt pets instead of buying from these operations. A state law from December now bans pet stores from selling dogs, cats and rabbits to help curb the pipeline from these mills. Democrat & Chronicle

- ➤ A correctional officer from Marcy Correctional Facility pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter at a state court in Utica for beating inmate Robert Brooks of Rochester in December and admitted to striking him and failing to report the incident—sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 4. ABC 13
- ➤ Danyelisse Pabon-Cubero, 17, died Monday when an errant bullet hit her during a retaliatory shooting on Alphonse Street — police later arrested Michael Garcia, 18, for firing a 9mm pistol that injured another man. ABC 13
- ➤ Irondequoit Town Police are searching for 62-year-old Gunther Powers—a vulnerable adult with dementia who was last seen walking along Brower Road on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue and white checkered shirt, black pants, brown boots, and a black knit hat; anyone with information should call 911 or the police at 585-336-6000. - ➤ Robert Brooks (43) died after a December beating at Marcy Correctional Facility, and a special prosecutor announced updates Monday at 9:30 a.m. as ten former corrections officers—six charged with murder, three with manslaughter, and one with evidence tampering—received extra time to decide on plea deals with court decisions set for later this month.
