  • Honor Flight Rochester held a ceremony at the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport on May 4th to welcome home veterans who flew Mission 88—this was the first of six flights planned for 2025 and was funded entirely by the community.  ABC 13
  • The second annual Dinking for Wilmot Dollars fundraiser was held on Saturday at Dinker’s Pickleball Campus in East Rochester to raise funds for Wilmot Cancer Center; players of all skill levels took part and attendees enjoyed food, raffles, line dancing + pickleball games while 69 local businesses contributed.  News 10
  • Honor Flight Rochester welcomed its first mission of the year on Sunday when 59 veterans landed at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport after a flight from Washington, D.C. to visit memorials—this trip is the first of six planned for 2025 and honored veterans from the Korean War, Cold War, and Vietnam War.  News 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A nearly 70-year-old family-owned business known as Hodgins Engraving Company in Batavia burned down Friday night in a massive chemical fire that took firefighters nearly 12 hours to put out and left neighbors in shock while former employees now face uncertainty as the Genesee County Office of Emergency Management investigates the cause.  News 10
  • Before 4 a.m. Sunday, a car crashed into a building on Hudson Avenue and Upper Falls Boulevard, sending three passengers to the hospital while the car’s front was crushed and airbags deployed — police later issued a ticket to the driver for not having a license with only minimal damage to the building.  News 10
  • A house on Roman Circle in the Town of Clarkson burned on Sunday as firefighters put out the flames and everyone escaped safely, though one firefighter was taken to the hospital—officials are investigating the cause.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Irondequoit police are searching for 62-year-old Gunther Powers, last seen on Brewer Road Sunday night at 9:30 p.m. (5-foot-10 and 200 pounds), who may need medical attention.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • North Hamlin Road between Lake Road East Fork and Lake Road West Fork in Hamlin will close today at 9:00 a.m. until November 1 at 5:00 p.m. for a bridge rehabilitation project & Kreag Road between NYS Route 96 and Sully’s Trail in Perinton will close on May 7 at 9:00 p.m. & reopen on May 8 at 7:00 a.m. with detour routes posted.  Rochester First

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local celebrities played a charity basketball game at Gates-Chili High School on Saturday to raise funds for the Mental Health Association of Rochester — organizers said the event helped use sports to focus community support on mental health services.  Rochester First
