  • Quick's Mane Event on Dewey Avenue hosted a 24-hour haircut marathon that ended today at 9 a.m. to raise funds for a bike drive starting at 9 a.m. today (each family is limited to one bike).  ABC 13
  • International Plaza will launch its 2026 season with a vibrant opening day on Sunday, May 3 between 1 and 5 p.m. The event will feature family-friendly festivities as the plaza opens for the season.  ABC 13

  • Schutt’s Apple Mill in Webster is facing a tough harvest after running frost protection for nearly nine hours Monday night & cold weather persists through the weekend. Owner Evan Schutt said the 28-acre farm may lose some blossoms but still expects a decent apple crop for fall.  News 10
  • The Strathallan Hotel and Spa in Rochester is now part of Hilton’s Tapestry Collection; hotel reps said the lifestyle rebranding fits its upscale furnishings + neighborhood vibe, marking a family-friendly shift for the long-standing hotel established in 1980.  ABC 13
  • Monroe School Transportation - one of the largest regional bus companies - will lay off about 180 employees starting July 12 after filing a WARN notice with the Labor Department. The company has served the school district for nine years and has operated in the region for three decades.  News 10

  • Rochester’s Funniest Stand-Up Contest offers local comics a chance to perform, and the ARC Rochester sign-up (deadline May 5) remains open for new talent to register and take the stage.  FOX Rochester
  • Food stands are being set up and lilacs are blooming as Highland Park prepares for the 128th Lilac Festival next week (May 9) with new food and drink tasting events and a record vendor lineup despite cooler temperatures.  News 10
  • Roses & Revolutions will perform live at ARC Sound Stage during Lilac Festival on Monday, May 11 at 5 p.m. Their return brings fresh energy to the festival, offering local attendees a vibrant music experience.  ABC 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The International Joint Commission warns that Lake Ontario is nearing flood stage and local communities are preparing for potential flooding by Friday, May 15 & many recall severe floods in 2017 and 2019. Homeowners and business owners along lakeshore areas are taking steps to mitigate risk as water levels rise.  News 10
  • April brought persistent rain to New York, causing flooded basements and swollen creeks while Rochester recorded 4.08 inches — well below its record of 5.81 inches. Buffalo and Watertown saw near record totals though statewide levels stayed within historical norms.  Democrat & Chronicle
