  • Kite Flite will bring community members together from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Ontario Beach Park, featuring free kite-making workshops & public kite flying along with children's acrobatics at 12:30 and 2. The event is organized by the Ontario Beach Park Program Committee.  WXXI News
  • The Gamma Iota Boulé Foundation will hold its 10th Recognition Ceremony at Hyatt Regency Rochester on Thursday, May 7. The event features a pre-event reception from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the ceremony from 12 to 1:30 p.m.  ABC 13
  • On April 1, torrential rain triggered a backyard landslide on Carlsam Drive in Irondequoit that now threatens homes with a 30—40 foot drop, prompting resident David Stafford to urge a permanent fix as local officials monitor erosion, forward county reports to Gov.   • Rochester Animal Services will waive dog adoption fees Saturday from 12 to 4 p.m. at Verona Street Animal Society as part of the BISSELL Pet Foundation's Empty the Shelters program; 15 dogs available will be spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before adopters take them home.  ABC 13

  • Food Truck Rodeo has returned to Rochester Public Market and runs from 5 to 9 p.m. on the last Wednesday of every month until September, offering diverse food options for local visitors.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Wednesday evening, ROC-music students performed alongside Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra musicians at the Edgerton R-Center, gaining hands-on music education and performance experience.  ABC 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lake Ontario is near flood stage at 246.8 feet, so the town of Greece has staged pumps and inspected valves on Edgemere Drive. Town crews — on standby with 40,000 sandbags — urge residents to check their sump pumps.  News 10

  • After three years of fewer incidents, work zone crashes surged last year to their highest level since 2020, so the New York State Thruway urges drivers to slow down and follow speed limits to keep workers safe + targeted enforcement and speed cameras back the message during National Work Zone Awareness Week.  Democrat & Chronicle
