COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local leaders from Rochester and Monroe County honored youth on Thursday night at the annual Youth Bureau Awards Ceremony, where awards named after Gary Mervis and Willie Walker Lightfoot celebrated strong leadership. The event recognized kids who serve as role models in the community.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The original Abbott's Frozen Custard on Lake Avenue is celebrating 100 years with community festivities on July 17 — details will be released soon. The shop, opened in 1926, has grown to over 30 locations and remains a local gathering spot.  ABC 13
  • The Rochester Music Hall of Fame will induct the legendary local act Skycoasters on Sunday, Apr. 26 at Kodak Hall. Jerry Boone and Rich Greene offered details about the upcoming ceremony.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Imagine RIT is showcasing hundreds of student exhibits that explore new technology. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at the campus.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • The AAFA ranked Rochester fifth nationally for pollen allergies with a score of 96.74 after a dramatic jump from 2025 due to extended exposure from warm weather (causing more tree, grass, and weed pollen). Residents are advised to monitor pollen counts and follow prevention tips.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Public Citizen warns Medicaid cuts put nearly 25% of New York hospitals at risk, including Rochester General and Unity Hospital of Rochester, for reduced services or closures that could lead to layoffs and funding losses. State officials say hospitals face an $8 billion funding shortfall as the cuts take effect.  Democrat & Chronicle
