  • Community groups held the Housing Not Handcuffs rally Tuesday evening at Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Park to demand lasting solutions to Rochester’s homelessness and oppose city sweeps that target unhoused residents. Advocates from Voices of Community Activists and Leaders-NY and Rochester Grants Pass Resistance shared personal stories and urged local officials to protect housing-first policies amid proposed service cuts.  Democrat & Chronicle

CRIME NEWS

  • The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to locate two missing teens from Henrietta—15-year-old Angel Nieves last seen at 4:30 p.m. on Calkins Road and 17-year-old Oliver 'Kayden' Bonner last seen at 4:30 a.m. on Emerald Circle—and notes there is no evidence they are in danger.  ABC 13
  • Guy Mustgray, 33, was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison for his role in the Christmas Day robbery and fatal beating of 60-year-old Michael DiCesare on Bay Street in Rochester — DiCesare died in February from his injuries.  News 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Harley School will host Medical Careers Day on Saturday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to let local students learn about healthcare careers from top professionals + try interactive procedures. The free event for students ages 12 and up features panel discussions, a free lunch + six hands-on stations, and requires pre-registration.  Rochester First

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Nate Morris explained from Ontario Beach Park that lake breezes cool the shoreline because the land heats up faster than the water (warm air rises and low pressure draws in cooler lake air). His explanation shows why the area is several degrees cooler during spring and summer months.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Monroe Livingston Regional EMS Council risks closing this summer if the state does not provide $200,000 in funding since its contract expired last July. Local EMS officials warn that without prompt state action — the loss of this program may hinder vital support such as updated care protocols for patients.  ABC 13
  • Rochester mayor Malik Evans, Councilmember Mary Lupien and local businessman Shashi Sinha presented distinct visions during the State of the City address on April 23—Evans highlighted public safety and housing initiatives while Lupien and Sinha focused on a guaranteed basic income and property tax cuts ahead of the primary election on June 24. Two other candidates did not meet the signature requirement and have until May 27 to file petitions.  ABC 13
