  • READY + in partnership with BRICK is hosting Bowling 4 Stars on Friday, April 24 at 6pm at Radio Social to benefit local youth, as Principal Yarritza Delgado announced. Community members are invited to join a fun night at the bowling alley.  ABC 13

  • Char Steak & Lounge at the Strathallan Hotel & Spa on East Avenue was remodeled on Thursday, April 9. The high-end restaurant now features a four-sided bar, an outdoor patio with a gas fireplace, and updated dining spaces for enjoying steaks and seasonal fare.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • Director Keegan Chen detailed RIT Players' upcoming show Noises Off, inviting audiences to get a behind the curtain look at the production. The play is set for Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25 at 8pm plus Sunday, April 26 at 2pm at Sklarsky Glass Box Theatre.  ABC 13
  • Classic rock band Triumph will perform a 50th anniversary tour at Darien Lake on June 3. Singer and guitarist Rik Emmett explained how the band expanded from three to five members with deep ties in Western New York.  ABC 13
  • New York celebrates spring with dozens of flower festivals, including Rochester’s 128th Lilac Festival in Highland Park, which runs May 8 — May 17 and offers live music, family activities, artisan vendors and food trucks.  Democrat & Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • AmeriCorps tutors are now helping 3- to 4-year-olds at RCSD pre-K classrooms in Rochester improve reading and math skills — the program plans to expand from 12 tutors serving 169 students to 45 tutors reaching 800 students — as this school year progresses.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York employers are banned from using credit histories for hiring, pay or promotion decisions after a state law took effect over the weekend. The rule exempts peace officers and federally regulated financial roles — violators may face penalties.  WXXI News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Every Kid Healthy Week kicked off Monday, April 20 at 9:32 a.m. as local organizers helped Rochester kids learn healthy habits for lasting fitness; the week-long event will offer fun activities to encourage better nutrition and exercise.  FOX Rochester

  • Local sports fans can vote for Section V's Girls Athlete of the Week, covering events April 13-19 and presented by Faber Builders.
