CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester woman pleaded guilty to taking her boyfriend's benefits after she hid his body in the home they shared on Bryan Street—she collected over $8,900 in Social Security and SNAP funds and will be sentenced in July.  News 10
  • Wendy Stone pleaded guilty to a federal identity theft charge for hiding her 66-year-old boyfriend Kenneth Crisman's body in the basement of their Bryan Street home after his death in late 2022 or early in 2023—she faces up to 10 years in prison when sentenced in July.  NewsRadio WHAM
  • Rochester Police responded to gunfire that broke out overnight on Watkin Terrace off Hudson Avenue on the northeast side at around 8:20 p.m.—no one was injured as they focused on a house of interest.  News 10

  • Officials warn that driving while high is dangerous as cannabis users prepare for 4/20 tomorrow. Monroe County law enforcement will boost road patrols and checkpoints during the Easter and Passover holidays — urging anyone impaired to use the free Have a Plan app for a safe ride.  WXXI News
  • A Rochester caregiver named Aleigha Bussey found that New York’s new CDPAP payroll system by Public Partnerships exposed her sensitive details — including her social security card and bank info — when her account was merged with another user’s. She reported the issue on Tuesday but had not received a call from a supervisor by Friday.  News 10
  • Mayor Malik Evans ordered the Rochester Police Department on Thursday to destroy illegal dirt bikes and ATVs impounded from city streets—50 vehicles will be scrapped if they are not made street legal. Offenders must pay a $500 fine for a first offense and $2,000 for a second while officials review a local business selling unregistered vehicles.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Henrietta generated over $750,000 in cannabis tax revenue since opening two dispensaries on Jefferson Road in 2023, and the funds paid for a special detail program with the Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Town Supervisor Stephen Schultz said the revenue may let the town roll back last year’s property tax increase next year — lowering taxes for residents.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Local real estate agents on an April 18 broadcast said Rochester remains the top sellers’ market in the country—its low inventory and shifts in tariff policies causing interest rate swings and challenging buyers.
