  • Corn Hill Navigation announced plans to celebrate the Erie Canal’s bicentennial with a full year of community programs and a 3D cake tribute modeled after the Sam Patch. The group will offer over 800 themed canal cruises on its two boats starting on Mother's Day, Sunday May 11 and running through October—providing free activities throughout the canal cruising season.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A tractor-trailer overturned on I‑90 near Exit 47 to Rochester and LeRoy on Wednesday morning just before 8:30 a.m.—the truck fell onto the median but did not block traffic.  News 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Tap It Bar and Grill on Scottsville Road in Henrietta earned a spot on the New York Beef Council’s top 10 list of the state’s best burgers — its burgers were judged on taste, presentation, and overall dining experience.  News 10

CRIME NEWS

  • On Apr. 16, Rochester police responded to a shootout on Norton Street near Hollenbeck Street that led to a suspect being arrested after he fired a shotgun through a door—officers shot a dog during a search and one officer was injured.  ABC 13
  • Rochester police had a large presence in the Norton Street area after surrounding a home around midnight and blocking the neighborhood; they shared details at 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday about an officer—involved shooting under investigation—and are continuing their inquiry.  Rochester First

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 2025 Gateways Music Festival will open April 21 at the Eastman School of Music and continue in New York City where a newly commissioned work will have its world premiere in Kodak Hall and William L. Dawson's Negro Folk Symphony will be performed in Carnegie Hall for the first time since 1934 — highlighting the contributions of Black classical musicians.  WXXI News

  • Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley filed a petition yesterday to remove Irondequoit Town Supervisor Andrae Evans from office after the town board and police referred claims of sexual misconduct; the petition—sent to the Appellate Division, Fourth Department—asks for a judgment under Public Officers Law 36.  Democrat & Chronicle

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local doctors say that overcrowded emergency rooms and nursing homes and a shortage of nurses and primary care doctors have caused a health care crisis in Rochester—prompting them to ask patients for their input. They released a 15-minute survey through the Patient-Clinician Alliance to help guide future system changes.  News 10
