  • A 12-year-old boy is fighting for his life after he was hit by a sedan while riding an electric scooter on Bauman Street and Avenue D this morning at about 12:30 a.m.—he was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital and the driver fled the scene.  News 10
  • Mendon Town Board and Town Supervisor John Moffit are demanding Highway Superintendent Andrew Caschetta resign after an internal investigation sustained allegations that he sexually harassed and retaliated against staff—town officials reported that his conduct led to multiple resignations and now plan to reduce his authority.  WXXI News
  • A Rochester man, 33-year-old Johnkiomi Ruiz, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he was convicted of assault and gun crimes from a June 2023 shooting on Lake Avenue near Ravine Avenue — prosecutors said he hunted his victim down and shot him in the back, leaving him with life-altering injuries — in a case that has drawn strong community attention.  NewsRadio WHAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The University of Rochester joined the Association of American Universities in suing the U.S. Department of Energy over a new funding cap that would cut about $25 million in annual research funding and disrupt programs at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics & other units. President Sarah Mangelsdorf said the lawsuit challenges a policy she described as an arbitrary breach of contract and aims to protect key research operations.  WXXI News
