  • The New York State Department of Veterans’ Services will host a Month of the Military Child event on Sunday at the Strong National Museum of Play. The free celebration will honor military children with commemorative T-shirts and a proclamation (signed by Governor Hochul).  ABC 13
  • SewGreen Rochester celebrated the grand reopening of its new, double-sized space at 560 West Main Street Sunday as it marked its 10-year anniversary and expanded its sewing and fiber arts classes. City representatives and customers joined the event to support the nonprofit's growing offerings.  News 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire on Wilder Terrace in the Charlotte area on Sunday morning left a home uninhabitable—firefighters controlled the blaze in about 30 minutes as three dogs died and two residents were displaced; officials said the cause is under investigation.  ABC 13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brothers Jason and Alex Rheinwald will open Fine Bagels, a fully certified kosher bakery (at 2240 Monroe Ave.) in Brighton in August as upgraded equipment and a larger space will more than double capacity for retail and wholesale orders.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • On April 29, filmmaker Peter Daulton screens his documentary 'Trolley Park: Great Lakes' free at Little 1 - 240 East Ave. with showtimes at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m.; doors open 30 minutes early for first-come, first-served seating, and the film will later air on TV and stream on PBS.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Local singer Lucas West, a 20-year-old Fairport native on Team Legend, will perform in The Voice semi-finals today at 8 p.m. on WHEC-TV — his Knockout win on March 30 earned him a spot to compete for $100,000 and a record deal in tomorrow's finale.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Today on WXXI the live session 'Connections with Evan Dawson' explored the impact of the cannabis law on local businesses and highlighted a slam poetry segment that celebrates community artistry (including insights from B.L.O.O.M. ROC and North Star Poets).  WXXI News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Eastman Institute of Oral Health received a $2.16 million grant to develop a community-based training model that will improve care for patients with intellectual and developmental disabilities and conditions such as HIV and diabetes plus boost oral health literacy among young dentists.  WXXI News

  • Rochester City Council will vote on April 21 to sell 125 Charlotte Street to Hinge Neighbors who propose building 11 affordable townhomes on a vacant lot along North Union Street. Neighbors have collected over 1,000 petition signatures to keep the green space as a cherished community area.  ABC 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Professional Bowlers Association tour ended Sunday evening at ABC Gates Bowl in Gates when top bowlers competed for the Surfside PBA New York Classic title. It was the first Rochester-area event since 1998 & attracted an enthusiastic crowd.  ABC 13
