- ➤ Students and parents met at School of the Arts on April 12 — following a tragic loss — to talk about mental health challenges and substance abuse while local organizations offered crisis intervention resources like the 988 hotline. The forum, organized with the city and the school district, featured panel discussions and breakout sessions to share strategies for early intervention. ABC 13
- ➤ On April 11, Tim Horton's Ice-Plex in Brighton hosted Party at Center Ice as a lively celebration where over 40 vendors offered tastings of wine, beer, ciders, and spirits to benefit Holy Childhood, an organization supporting people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A Penfield High School Robotics Team—known as the 1511 Rolling Thunder—won the regional competition and secured a spot in the World Championship. They will compete in Houston from April 16 through April 19 and have started a GoFundMe to help fund their trip. Rochester First
- ➤ Lyons graduate Emery Taylor (18) became the youngest student accepted to UB School of Law after passing the LSAT and graduating high school early through an Early Scholars Program. They will begin law school this fall and plan to make a strong impact on policy work. Rochester First
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Ronald McDonald House unveiled its first House to Home mobile unit on Saturday at Rochester Riverside Convention Center to offer enhanced telehealth and support services for families with medically complex children. The mobile unit, designed with Golisano’s Children’s Hospital Complex Care Program, will bring food delivery — mental health checks — referrals and other resources to connect families with needed care. - ➤ Cabot Creamery recalled its Extra Creamy Premium Butter Sea Salted in New York on March 26 — an FDA Class III recall — because tests found elevated coliform levels that suggest fecal contamination; the company said that only 17 packages were sold and nearly all of the 1,700 pounds were recovered.
