COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Friday, April 11, 2025, the Dominican community gathered at Rochester City Hall to honor the 221 people killed and over 200 injured when the roof at the Jet Set Night Club collapsed just after midnight on April 8. Flags across the state will be lowered to half-staff this weekend—an act to remember those who lost their lives.  ABC 13

CRIME NEWS

  • Three men—25-year-old Sebastian Ortiz and 18-year-old Damani Lodato from Rochester and 18-year-old Richard Crowder from Brockport—were arrested in Greece yesterday after forcing entry into homes on Annie Drive and Dorsey Road; police reported all face gun charges while Lodato and Crowder also face robbery and burglary.  NewsRadio WHAM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City and Board of Education announced Bus Patrol today—an initiative using AI-enabled stop-arm cameras that will issue a $250 fine for first violations to keep children safe near school buses. The cameras will be installed this fall once the city adopts the technology and will send recorded violations to the Rochester Police Department.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the University of Rochester announced it is partnering with Sol, a mental health group, to offer an app that gives daily reflections and personalized support for student anxiety, depression, and loneliness. The university will give free premium Sol memberships to all students and staff.  News 10
  • Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services started round-the-clock care Friday, April 11 at its new facility on West Commercial Street—ending a nearly two-year wait that forced some pet owners to travel to Buffalo for help. The center uses modern equipment and operating rooms built with donations to provide emergency care when pets need it.  ABC 13
