  • Rochester Regional Health's Unity Living Center reached a tentative three-year agreement with over 100 union workers on Thursday (union members will vote next week on ratification after a March picket on Genesee Street).  ABC 13

  • Composer Lisa Bielawa will lead her spatial symphony 'Rochester Broadcast' on Saturday, April 18 (rain date Sunday, April 19) at Parcel 5 on East Main Street, featuring over 200 local musicians in two scheduled performances.  Rochester Beacon
  • RIT opened its new 700-seat performing arts center today to host concerts, talks and events for students and community groups (its first show was a sold-out cabaret) marking a new era for local arts.  News 10

  • The Rochester Association of Black Journalists is offering the Wyoma Best Scholarship to local seniors planning to study journalism or communications.   • The RPD will host its first teen police academy Aug. 3–7 to offer 25 local teens hands-on experience in police work & career insights, with applications due by April 17. The program is part of efforts to rebuild its 700-person force.  Democrat & Chronicle

HEALTH NEWS

  • A WalletHub study released on April 10 found New York is among the best states for children’s health care, ranking it No. 8 with a score of 57.41. The study compared 33 indicators - from insurance rates to nutrition and dental care - to measure children’s health outcomes.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Warm spring temperatures have spurred tick activity in Rochester as experts note that insects emerge from leaf litter even after a cold winter. They advise residents to check for ticks and use protective measures outdoors to lower the risk of tick-borne illness.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester nonprofit 13THIRTY Cancer Connect celebrated 25 years of supporting young people with cancer on Thursday night and reached a $250,000 fundraising goal to boost future services. The milestone honors founder Lauren Spiker, who started the group after losing her daughter to cancer.  News 10
