  • Artemis II crew captured images from the far side of the moon through windows polished at Sydor Optics in Chili. The company, with over 100 local employees, will polish windows for Artemis III scheduled for 2027.  News 10
  • Goodwill will open its first store in Chili today at 9 a.m. at the former Big Lots in Chili Square plaza on Chili Ave, with a ribbon cutting at 8:40 a.m. and $10 gift cards for the first 100 customers 16 and older.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • The Rochester Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority will celebrate 60 years of service — a milestone anniversary — by hosting its Diamonds Are Forever Jazz Brunch on Sunday, May 3 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Hyatt Regency Rochester.  ABC 13
  • Grammy Award-winning country artist Zach Top, known for hits like 'I Never Lie' — his popular tune — will perform at CMAC on Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. as part of his Cold Beer and Country Music Summer '26 Tour, with Wyatt McCubbin joining as a special guest.  Democrat & Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After reporting a $49 million gap, the school district reduced its deficit to $23 million by cutting spending by $26 million. Superintendent Eric Rosser will explain the new budget plan during an online discussion on April 17 from noon to 1 p.m.  Rochester Beacon

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A state Supreme Court judge is considering default judgments totaling nearly $1 million against a Fairport company and its owner for not paying dental bills owed to teachers and staff, with the funds to go to local schools. The orders remain unsigned as the defendants did not respond to court filings.  News 10
  • Autism Up and Monroe County are partnering to offer sensory-friendly DMV appointments on Saturday, April 11 at Autism Up, 50 Science Parkway, Rochester from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Attendees will enjoy dimmed lighting, beanbag chairs, and sensory bags with noise-cancelling headphones for non-drivers license IDs + less stress.  WXXI News

HEALTH NEWS

  • The 15th annual Dr. Lemuel & Gloria Rogers African American Health Symposium was held yesterday at Memorial AME Zion Church (Clarissa Street) in Rochester. The event aimed to educate the public on Alzheimer's risk factors and symptoms to help close the diagnosis gap among older Black Americans.  ABC 13
  • On Monday, nearly 290 technical medical workers at Rochester General Hospital voted to join the union after a 145+54 vote by the NLRB. In addition, about 80 urgent care workers at regional facilities will decide on unionizing once an election date is set.  News 10
