  • Villa of Hope hosts Portraits of Hope on April 10 at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center — a reimagined celebration featuring a relaxed coffee talk conversation with Buffalo Bills running back Ray Davis and a silent auction of signed memorabilia.  Rochester Beacon
  • Baby reindeer Odin was born at Shortsville Reindeer Farm on March 31 and is growing well with his mother; visitors can view Odin during a free event on April 12 from 9 a.m. to noon (registration required).  Democrat & Chronicle
  • 13WHAM employees helped sort donated clothing, books, and toys at Ronald McDonald House of Rochester on Wednesday, April 8, supporting families with hospitalized children. JoAnne Ryan (the home's president) said the event reinforced the need for volunteer support.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Erie Canal remains a historic and recreational destination running through Rochester’s canalside villages. Visitors today can enjoy kayaking, canoeing or houseboat tours with operations available mid-May to mid-Oct.  Democrat & Chronicle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Nazareth and Syracuse Universities have launched a direct-admission program for engineering graduate studies that lets Nazareth undergraduates in select science and math fields transfer directly into Syracuse’s master’s programs. The pathway includes a six‑week summer bridge course (a preparatory step) to ready students for advanced study.  News 10

  • State Senator Andrew Gounardes is pushing to reinstate the sales tax on bullion to recoup an estimated $600 million lost from a 37-year tax exemption + gold dealers warn that charging up to 8.875% could drive business overseas as Albany continues state budget negotiations.  WXXI News

  • The Healthy Baby Network will host a Black Maternal Health Walk-A-Thon from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at The Mall At Greece Ridge to raise awareness during Black Maternal Health week, which runs April 11 — 17.  WXXI News
  • Lundberg Family Farms is voluntarily recalling 2-pound bags of Organic Jasmine White Rice — sold at Wegmans, Walmart, Target and Whole Foods — for possible foreign material contamination.
