- ➤ Tyrone James, charged with second-degree murder and held without bail, was due in Monroe County Court Monday morning for the stabbing death of singer Myrtle Watson in her Sixth Street apartment in September — police said he reportedly knew Watson and had 49 prior criminal convictions. News 10
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Rochester auto workers leader Dan Maloney said tariffs imposed last week may soon help revive local manufacturing by encouraging investments to refit old auto plants—many of which already have basic infrastructure—for modern production. He expects any new auto jobs to spur further local industry growth while experts warn that updating outdated facilities will be challenging. ABC 13

- ➤ Monroe Community College is joining a SUNY pilot program to tackle food insecurity on campus. A study by Temple University's Hope Center found that 41% of students struggle to get enough food and Chris Lopez has returned to school to see how MCC is handling the issue. ABC 13
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ RCSD approved a new safety plan to add BusPatrol cameras on school buses to cut stop-arm violations. The cameras cost about $10,000 per bus and use violator fees for funding—after showing improvements in Buffalo—while installation is set to begin in the 2025-2026 school year. Rochester Beacon
- ➤ Starting May 7, you must have a REAL ID, an enhanced driver's license, or a passport to fly within the U.S. The DMV - our local agency - said REAL IDs - marked with a star - cannot be used for border crossings with Canada and Mexico. News 10
- ➤ Rochester City Council will vote today on a $2 million agreement to renovate the playground at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Park downtown (the facility has been damaged and vandalized). The project (involving upgraded lighting, two major inclusive play spaces, an expanded water play area and new trees) is expected to be completed by year-end. News 10
- ➤ Today, the City of Rochester announced a $2.5 million investment to renovate the Verona Street Animal Shelter by building 72 new kennels to replace outdated facilities and improve care for the 1,700 dogs served each year. City Council will vote on an additional $150,000 for spay and neuter services while upgrades include real windows and exterior doors for each dog room. News 10
