- ➤ A dog died in a two-alarm fire at 63 Glendale Park on Friday night—firefighters arrived shortly after 11 p.m. to control the blaze in about 45 minutes and are investigating the cause. Rochester First

- ➤ A 32-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body on Genesee Street Saturday at 4 p.m. and his injuries are not life-threatening while police search for a suspect (anyone with information is urged to call 911). News 10

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Students from Vertus High School gained hands-on surgical skills at a workshop held Saturday, April 5 at the UR Medicine Saunders Orthopaedics and Physical Performance Center—led by UR Medicine staff from underrepresented minorities who mentored them on future careers in medicine. The workshop offered practical training to students from disadvantaged areas of Rochester, sparking interest in healthcare fields. ABC 13
- ➤ University of Rochester Medical Center hosted a surgical skills workshop for Vertus High School boys at Saunders Orthopaedics and Physical Performance Center in Rochester. The surgeon-led program taught fracture setting, rod implantation, splinting, and casting to help students see a future in medicine. Rochester First
- ➤ The Rochester City School District held its annual Family and Community Engagement Forum at Loretta Johnson Middle School on Genesee Street, where families attended interactive workshops, met community vendors, previewed a new English curriculum for the upcoming school year and met incoming Superintendent Eric Jay Rosser who will begin his role in July.
