- ➤ Avelo Airlines began non-stop flights from Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport to Nashville, Tennessee on Thursday and will start service to Wilmington, North Carolina today. The Nashville flights run twice weekly on Thursdays and Sundays—while the Wilmington flights fly on Mondays and today—and the airline now offers five non-stop routes including flights to Raleigh-Durham, Charlotte and Central Florida. - ➤ A local veteran is launching a welding school called Forged by Valor to help fellow veterans learn a new trade. The school will operate at the Rochester Arc + Flame Center at 125 FedEx Way after the Veterans Outreach Center committed $100,000+ and additional support is needed. FOX Rochester
- ➤ On Wednesday night, young musicians as young as 8 played at Edgerton R-Center with professionals from the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the ROCMusic Studio Strings Ensemble program, which meets weekly + offers hands-on mentoring. - ➤ Local officials are pushing for climate funding in the state budget to fix housing, health, and job issues in Rochester. They support a cap—and-invest program and the NY HEAT Act to bring clean energy and lower energy costs for families. Rochester Beacon
- ➤ Mayor Malik D. Evans announced today that Rochester’s Clean Sweep will take place on May 3 at 8 a.m. at Innovative Field. Residents and community groups are asked to volunteer for cleaning streets, repairing sidewalks and planting flowers—volunteers will get a t-shirt, a light breakfast and a ticket to a Red Wings game—and help keep the city tidy. - ➤ Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty said early inmate releases planned in a new state memo may pose safety risks today — prison superintendents must submit by noon a list of nonviolent offenders set for early release due to staff shortages following strikes, and Dougherty expressed concern after learning of the decision on the news.
