Good morning, Rochester. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 31st of March.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, hundreds of teens attended the fourth annual ROC Youth Community Resource and Employment Fair at East High School to meet local recruiters, explore job openings, and connect with support services. City and county programs provided mentorship—offering transportation and paid work opportunities—to help teens build long-term job skills.  WXXI News
  • Chabad Lubavitch will host its 42nd annual Model Matzah Bakery event — a Passover tradition — at the Jewish Community Center on Edgewood Avenue in Brighton where visitors will learn to bake Shmurah matzah. The event has earned the Elmer Louis Award for its role in teaching local residents about Jewish life.  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Saturday night, firefighters put out a small electric fire on the ledge of the historic Powers Building on West Main Street—caused by a heat tape malfunction—with no damage reported inside.  News 10

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A pair of peregrine falcons laid three eggs atop the Times Square Building — downtown Rochester, and the eggs are expected to hatch in April. Birdwatchers will track their progress live — through the R Falcon Cam project.  WXXI News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Local representatives are debating the SAVE Act—a proposed bill that will require proof of U.S. citizenship for registering to vote in federal elections. Congressman Joe Morelle warned that the law would burden married women who changed names, and Monroe County officials said voter registration practices remain unchanged until new guidance is issued.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rochester’s Independent Living Center joined a class action lawsuit in New York City this Monday afternoon to seek a temporary restraining order that will let Medicaid CDPAP participants keep their services after state changes take effect on April 1 — advocates warn that the new system could cut off care and force thousands into emergency rooms if aide support ends. This legal action comes as state leaders limit payments to one fiscal intermediary for the program, raising concerns about service disruptions and access to care.  Rochester First
