  • Rochester police said Cornelia Neer, 76, was fatally struck by an SUV turning right from Hillside Avenue onto South Winton Road at around 4 p.m. on March 26th in Cobbs Hill, and the teen driver was not impaired with no citations given.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rochester’s Austin Steward Elementary School No. 46 received over 60 donated books on March 28 to honor Gian Ortiz, a child who died at age 2 in 2018. The Ortiz family partnered with the Rochester Education Foundation to make yearly donations that foster literacy among fourth-graders — a tribute to Gian’s love for being read to.  ABC 13
  • Miss Julie's School of Beauty held a groundbreaking on Friday, March 28th in the Sibley Building downtown to launch a free cosmetology training program for human trafficking survivors—State Sen. Jeremy Cooney secured $284,000 in funding and the school will open this fall.  ABC 13

  • Federal agents stopped a work van on Whitney Street near Lyell Avenue on March 24 and detained Sarah Galvan’s undocumented husband and his two stepsons while Rochester police assisted the agents—a move city officials say broke the sanctuary rule and prompted an internal review.  WXXI News

  • Entrepreneur Barbara Corcoran recounted her nine-year experience caring for her mother, Florence, who suffered from Alzheimer’s, and described the challenges her family faced as her mother’s symptoms changed over time.
