  • Laura Fancher celebrated her 100th birthday Sunday, March 22, at Calvary Community Church of the Nazarene in Henrietta. Friends and family gathered to share cake, photos, and memories of her long life devoted to caring for children.  ABC 13
  • Attica’s Merle Maple Farm hosted Western New York Maple Weekend on Sunday, March 22, where visitors learned how trees are tapped and syrup is made in live demos.  ABC 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Maple Weekend, visitors learned New York’s traditional maple syrup-making methods at Letchworth State Park while tapping trees and boiling sap over fire, and they enjoyed a pancake breakfast; the syrup is available for sale at the local nature center.  News 10
  • On Sunday, Mar. 22, children and families gathered at the JCC in Brighton for Chabad Lubavitch’s 42nd annual Model Matzah Bakery event. Kids baked matzah under Rabbi Nechemia Vogel’s guidance as part of a hands-on lesson in Passover traditions.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting Monday, NYSDOT will close sections of I-490 and Route 531 overnight in Gates for sign installations—closures include Monday and Tuesday nights for I-490, Wednesday for Route 531, and Thursday for an off ramp; drivers should follow detour signs.  News 10
