- ➤ Local experts say rising rent, income disparities, and a housing shortage have driven homelessness in Rochester, with a January count showing over 1,000 people affected and shelter occupancy ranging from 70 to 90—an issue that has hit families, seniors, and African Americans hard. The Salvation Army operates 57 beds at its shelters while Person Centered Housing Options expects updated data in April. ABC 13

- ➤ A Rochester man, Marlon Williams—35 and a repeat felony offender—was sentenced to 40 years to life on Monday by Justice Thomas Moran after he was convicted for fatally shooting Shaquan Parker on Wellington Avenue on July 15, 2022 when he fired from his vehicle. Democrat & Chronicle
- ➤ A 17-year-old Rochester resident was seriously injured after he was shot on northeast Rochester’s Kosciusko Street at about 9:20 p.m. Monday—police said his injuries are critical but not life-threatening and he was taken to a nearby hospital while the investigation continues. - ➤ RIT announced that its long-running STEM REU program will not be offered this summer—federal funding delays and uncertainty forced the cancellation after nearly a decade of research opportunities for undergraduates. Professor Tony Wong warned that the loss of the program will affect hundreds of students and may impact key areas in STEM like artificial intelligence, computing, and biotechnology. News 10
