CRIME NEWS

  • Tyrone James, a 61-year-old felon with 49 prior convictions, was arrested Friday, March 14th for allegedly killing Myrtle Watson, 63—her Sixth Street apartment showed signs of multiple stab wounds on Sept. 14th, 2024.  ABC 13
  • Kelvin Vickers, a 24-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for killing a Rochester police officer, was caught on video hitting a corrections officer at Coxsackie Correctional Facility—officials say an investigation is underway.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Teams from the Finger Lakes region took part in the first Regional Robotics Competition at Rochester Institute of Technology—where students used engineering and design skills to tackle real problems—on March 13th. The event gave them hands-on experience to develop new solutions that help protect marine habitats.  News 10
  • Graduate student workers at the University of Rochester will vote on a strike on Monday, March 24 after union organizers say the school stopped them from unionizing for higher pay— they want a better deal for teaching and research help. The school said a strike would hurt classes and has made plans to keep academic work running.  News 10
  • Students at School of the Arts joined the ROC2CHANGE Summit on March 14, 2025 to learn about empathy, resilience, and inclusion+ sessions helped spark open talks among diverse student groups. The event, now in its ninth year, aided students in sharing ideas on communication and race+ organizers plan to hold more summits in the future.  ABC 13

  • Voters in Churchville, Honeoye Falls, Pittsford, Scottsville, Spencerport, and Victor will vote on local officials next Tuesday — polls are open from noon to 9 p.m. Some races are uncontested while others are hotly contested.  WXXI News
