  • The Rotary Club of Pittsford will host A Taste of Pittsford at Nazareth College Shults Center from 6-8:30 p.m. on Monday, March 16 to bring the community together and raise funds for club activities while featuring local food vendors.  FOX Rochester

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester's annual Lilac Festival is named the second best flower festival nationwide, according to USA Today Readers' Choice poll. The 10-day event (128th year) runs from Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 17 in Highland Park and features live music, food, artisans and family activities.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Rochester Broadway Theatre League will present Kimberly Akimbo, a five-time Tony-winning musical about a teenager's rapid aging, with eight performances from March 24 to 29 at West Herr Auditorium.  ABC 13
  • The Company Theatre is presenting a re-imagined production of Shakespeare's Julius Caesar at 28 Lawn Street through March 22. Actors Tim Banning as Caesar and Jonathan Nketheha as Brutus lead the performance, offering a fresh take on the classic play.  ABC 13
  • Arlene's Costumes celebrated its 70th anniversary on Thursday, March 12 with a Sip and Celebrate party held from 6 to 8 p.m. at its shop (featuring festive refreshments) that marked decades of costuming tradition.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students and parents attended Monroe Community College's College 101 fair on Wednesday at the Brighton campus. Rochester area colleges offered tips on financial aid, athletic recruitment, and independent living to help students prepare for college.  News 10
  • News10NBC highlighted Do the Right Thing awards winners, including second grader Xovian Rosario of Walt Disney Elementary, Gracie Tillinghast of Bishop Kearney, and Bobby Scherzi of Aquinas Institute, who were recognized for acts of kindness & inclusion; the RPD will announce winners on May 7, a program run since 1995.  News 10
  • The Rochester City School District honored 10 women for leadership at local high schools Wednesday evening at its Central Office on West Broad Street during Women’s History Month. The event featured a keynote address by Taylor Phillips under the theme Leading the Change, Women Shaping a Sustainable Future.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Wilmot Cancer Institute set up a giant inflatable colon at the Central Library yesterday to teach residents about colorectal cancer screening and prevention. Dr. Danielle Marino said early detection can make the disease over 90% curable—breaking down barriers about discussing health.  ABC 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • Section V honored Kylie Clement and Lennon Suplicki as Athletes of the Week for March 2—8. Clement scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the girls basketball title while Suplicki, a goalie, made 34 saves to lead his team to a hockey win.  Democrat & Chronicle
