  • Brighton High senior Jane Homes, a certified lifeguard and EMT second lieutenant, provided first aid to a parent at a swim meet and was nominated for a Do the Right Thing award by Rochester Police Captain Greg Bello.  News 10
  • Ground Zero Wrestling will hold its Chapter Nine event tomorrow at Aeriel Arts (a local venue) with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and the first match at 4:00 p.m. The six-match card features a championship belt fight and tag team bout with local talent and New Jersey-based wrestlers.  Rochester Beacon

  • Mall owner Wilmorite said on March 5 two new businesses will open at the Mall at Greece Ridge in coming months. Express Jewelers Outlet will occupy a 1,364 sqft spot near Center Court + Ichiddo Ramen will operate in a 649 sqft Food Court near Honshu Hibachi.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Swan Market, a century-old deli known for authentic German cuisine in Rochester, was named one of America’s best restaurants by USA Today on Friday, Mar. 6. The market’s signature bratwurst + mashed potatoes are drawing praise from local critics.  FOX Rochester

CULTURE NEWS

  • Albatross, a local folk rock quintet, joins ARC Sound Stage by ARC Rochester. The band plays today at 8:30 p.m. at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery and will perform again on Saturday, March 21 at the same venue.  ABC 13

  • AAA reported that gas prices may rise this spring with refineries switching to summer-blend gasoline and global events affecting oil supply — Rochester drivers could see changes and are advised to plan fuel-efficient trips.  Democrat & Chronicle

  • Pittsford school district voters approved a $48.7 million plan to repair and modernize schools with upgrades to roofs, parking lots, emergency generators, air conditioning, and playgrounds while keeping tax revenue unchanged.  WXXI News

  • Highland Hospital held its Wear Blue Day colorectal screening event yesterday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in its main lobby, while Strong Memorial hosted a similar event from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. featuring expert guidance with nonprofit Strollin’ for the Colon.  News 10
