  • RYP hosted a gala to celebrate its one-year relaunch by honoring four local leaders for their volunteer impact and community service in Rochester, highlighting the group's commitment to fostering local talent.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • New Yorkers witnessed the total lunar eclipse on March 3, 2026 when the Worm Moon turned coppery red during nearly hour-long totality. Photos document the event from its penumbral start at 3:44 a.m. to its conclusion at 9:23 a.m.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • The community marked Women’s History Month Monday with a new Susan B. Anthony portrait unveiled on the fifth floor of the Hall of Justice. Local groups, including the Susan B. Anthony Museum and House (with the 7th Judicial District’s Gender Fairness Committee), hosted the ceremony.  News 10
  • Lucas West, a 20-year-old Fairport native, impressed NBC's The Voice judges with his performance of Bennie and the Jets on March 3, choosing Team Legend; he will face an opponent in the Battle Rounds on March 16 or March 23 on WHEC-TV (Peacock will stream the next day).  Democrat & Chronicle
  • JCC CenterStage will host the Pulitzer-winning drama 'Sweat' on eight dates, starting Saturday, Mar. 7 at 7:30 p.m. and ending Sunday, Mar. 22 at 2 p.m., with additional shows on Mar. 8, 12, 14, 15, 19 and 21.  ABC 13
  • On March 2, the Strong National Museum of Play received a Wheel of Fortune puzzle board used until 1997, which staff brought in by opening a wall and transporting on a 6-day drive; it will serve as the centerpiece for the museum's upcoming Beyond the Buzzer exhibit opening in spring 2028.  Democrat & Chronicle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, Governor Kathy Hochul warned that rising tensions in the Middle East could drive up gas and utility costs for farmers, manufacturers and small businesses. She said state intelligence, law enforcement and enhanced security at gathering places aim to protect vulnerable communities (especially Iranian- and Jewish-American New Yorkers).  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Highland Hospital will host a Go Blue event on Friday, March 6 in its main lobby from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. as part of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, where medical experts (including Lawrence Saubermann and R.N. Tatyana Martinez) will discuss screening, prevention, and early detection.  ABC 13
  • URochester has received up to $22M in federal funds to study whether TPN-101 (a drug originally developed for HIV) can reduce age-related inflammation and preserve function in older adults. Led by Vera Gorbunova, the five-year study will enroll 200 adults ages 60 to 65 over 48 weeks.  Rochester Beacon
