  • The Rochester Riverside Convention Center hosts the Auto Show today with over 150 new models on display (including sedans, SUVs, hybrids) as dealers, Monroe Community College, and a mobile DMV station schedule events through Sunday. Red Wings mascots will appear for added family fun.  News 10

  • fivebyfive will hold two Wonders of Water concerts under the dome at Strasenburgh Planetarium on March 5 and 6 (celebrating 10th anniversary) as audio and visual artist Marc Webster and guitarist Ken Luk help shape the live dome show (video created at ARC Rochester).  FOX Rochester
  • Beloved local entertainer Miss Sweet Potato Pie will bring back her Books & Brilliance Fashion Show in its second year at the Memorial Art Gallery on March 1 at 2 p.m., offering a literacy-through-fashion experience that celebrates creativity, confidence and identity in children.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Henry Hudson School No. 28 experienced a hands-on ocean lesson yesterday during the Whalemobile visit, which featured a 40-foot inflatable whale touring four local schools this month. A whale researcher explained ocean life lessons (highlighting threats whales face) to enhance students' learning.  News 10
  • The New York State Department of Education dismissed a petition from former board member James Patterson that sought to remove board member Isaiah Santiago after he was accused of using the N-word. Santiago apologized for the incident in a news release Thursday, and the complaint was dropped due to insufficient evidence.  WXXI News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • News10NBC investigative reporter Brett Davidsen examined a 65-page inspection report from NYSDOT on a long-closed on-ramp that has limited access to 490-East in Rochester since August 2024 (a closure affecting up to 1,200 drivers daily). The report aired Thursday at 5.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Hochul announced that Rochester's Choose Healthy Life (a church-based health service) received $6.5 million to expand maternal and mental health services in underserved communities through Houses of Worship. The funds will support the rollout of new programs.  FOX Rochester

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Amerks will honor late hall-of-famer Scott Metcalfe during Friday night’s game at Blue Cross Arena as fans can submit photos for display while the event will feature a 10-second moment of silence, a ceremonial puck-drop with his family, and promotional giveaways like trading cards and yo-yos.  News 10
  • Addison Falsone of Bloomfield and George Marron of Penfield were named Section V Athletes of the Week for Feb. 16-22, presented by Faber Builders. Falsone received over 30,000 votes after scoring 18 points and six 3s, and Marron scored an overtime winner — votes closed online at 8 p.m. Wednesday.  Democrat & Chronicle
