  • On Thursday, women leaders in business and community service were honored at the 40th annual Athena International Awards in Rochester, where Naomi Silver from the Red Wings received the Athena Award, Lindsay Connelly earned the Athena Young Professional Award, and The Arc of Monroe won the Organizational Award.  News 10
  • The annual 'Just One' campaign kicked off on Thursday night at Fairport Brewing Company and raised over $17,000 to help fund the Al Sigl Community of Agencies, which offers services to 55,000+ people with disabilities.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 7th Judicial District unveiled its annual Black History Month Portrait Gallery on Friday, Feb. 6 at the Monroe County Hall of Justice — the exhibit displays books, artifacts, and portraits honoring leaders like Judge Reuben Davis and remains available on the fifth floor throughout February.  ABC 13
  • The George Eastman Museum is showcasing a vibrant floral display that offers a taste of spring as winter lingers. The exhibit, featuring hundreds of blooms for visitors to enjoy, will be open through Feb. 22.  News 10
  • The Memorial Art Gallery hosts a free Black History Month event this Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. that features art, gallery tours and live jazz, blues and hip hop music honoring Negro History Week — inviting the community to celebrate Black excellence.  Spectrum News

  • The Urban League of Rochester honored 26 students who averaged a B or higher during its third annual Black Scholars Recognition Ceremony on Thursday night at Victor Junior High in Victor (families gathered to celebrate academic achievement).  News 10
  • During Job Shadow Week, RCSD seniors at Edison Tech, East High, World of Inquiry + Monroe shadowed local news professionals on Thursday to learn about career paths and multi-platform content production. The program helps students explore options after graduation + plan their future pathways.  ABC 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Letitia James warns New Yorkers to use only licensed betting sites ahead of the Super Bowl since some unregulated platforms may not offer safeguards like age checks and help for gambling problems. Residents are urged to steer clear of unauthorized sites.  Spectrum News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Villa of Hope reopened its 14-bed residential treatment program (New LIFE House) on Friday, Feb. 6 to help local men overcome addiction with group therapy, education support, and relapse management in a home-like setting.  ABC 13
  • On Friday, Feb. 6, free blood pressure screenings and Hands-Only CPR demonstrations were held at Strong Memorial Hospital lobby from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and at Blue Cross Arena starting at 6 p.m. in celebration of National Wear Red Day.  News 10
  • Strong Hospital celebrated its Heart Transplant Center's 25th anniversary today with cake and balloons as it marked growth from 3 to 70 staff and nearly 400 transplants performed—showing the ongoing need for organ donors.  News 10
  • At UR Medicine’s F.F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, chaplains led by Rev. Janice Lum provide spiritual care to patients and families during illness and loss. They work with medical staff to address grief and recently received the Excellence in Spiritual Care award.  Spectrum News
