BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new Chick-fil-A opened at CityGate Plaza on East Henrietta Road on Thursday morning. The restaurant offered free meals for customers in cow prints — a chance to receive a free entree or kids’ meal — and donated $25,000 to Feeding America in celebration.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester artist Unique Fair will debut his solo exhibition Veils at Joy Gallery on March 6. The portrait-focused event examines identity and community through oil paintings and runs until March 31 at 498 W Main St.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • Frederick Douglass moved to Rochester in 1847 to lead the abolitionist movement and start his newspaper, The North Star. His legacy is honored at the Rochester Museum & Science Center and via a downtown bridge and an airport bearing his name.  ABC 13
  • The City of Rochester and its Black Heritage Committee launched the event series Thursday at City Hall’s atrium — featuring art, jazz and food tasting — and the series continues through February into March and April with gospel concerts, a panel discussion and a gala at the Riverside Convention Center.  WXXI News

  • The Monroe County Library System and Rochester Public Library will celebrate International Take Your Child to the Library Day tomorrow at the Central Library — the event features free music, dance, crafts and scavenger hunts and offers a chance for children to win a prize through a library passport drawing.  City of Rochester
  • St. John Fisher University students will dance 24 hours straight to raise money for Camp Good Days and Special Times at Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Athletic Center Fieldhouse today with the event starting at 8pm.  ABC 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wegmans Food Markets recalled its Organic Chicken Noodle Soup sold at Market Cafés after red plastic contamination was found. Customers who bought the refrigerated product should return it for a refund — the soup's best-by date is Feb. 17.  Democrat & Chronicle
  • On Wednesday, World Cancer Day in Brighton saw local survivor Nicolette Ferguson, diagnosed in 2022 and now on hormone therapy, share her story and urge regular checkups. She connected with other survivors through the Breast Cancer Coalition (a support network) for advice on early detection.  News 10
  • Rochester Regional Health experts are alerting doctors to a link between carpal tunnel and amyloidosis — a condition that can affect the heart. The team will work with hand surgeons to refer high-risk patients for early cardiac evaluations.  ABC 13

  • Alta Vista, downtown’s new all-electric affordable housing complex, held its ribbon cutting ceremony today at Franklin Street and Pleasant, featuring 76 units funded by nearly $32 million in state support. IADC—committed to community building—manages the property and reviews applications for households meeting need-based criteria.  News 10

  • The Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina can be watched by local viewers starting today as NBC airs live events (noon on weekdays and 7 a.m. on weekends) while Peacock offers round-the-clock streaming and USA Network provides extra coverage.
