  • Residents near 125 Charlotte St have submitted a petition with 490 signatures urging officials to preserve the temporary East End Green as a permanent park amid planned development — city officials will negotiate a final sale later this month.  Rochester Beacon

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Wegmans closed its Burger Bar next to the Pittsford store (3195 Monroe Ave) on Feb. 2 and will redesign the space as Market Café, where customers will scan a QR code to order meals from the Wegmans Meals 2Go platform. The new concept is set to open in spring.  Democrat & Chronicle

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Grammys honored Rochester jazz musician Chuck Mangione (84) during their In Memoriam segment, and the ceremony also recognized Eastman School of Music locals by awarding winners for Best Arrangement and Best Classical Album.  News 10
  • Rochester’s PUSH Physical Theatre is celebrating its 25th anniversary season with a series of performances at Geva Theatre beginning March 13 through March 21. The group will also host a free community feedback event Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Geva’s fielding stage.  ABC 13
  • Eastman School professor Paul O'Dette won his second Grammy on Sunday evening for conducting LP 'Telemann: Ino - Opera Arias for Soprano' and will appear on ARC Rochester on Thursday, Feb. 5. He will perform at the John Dowland Festival on Sunday, Feb. 22 at Downtown United Presbyterian Church.  ABC 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Hajim School of Engineering and Applied Sciences has renamed its deanship after a $10 million gift from trustee John & Barbara Bruning, establishing permanent funding for the dean position. Dean Wendi Heinzelman continues in her role as part of the university’s ongoing 'Ever Better' campaign.  Campus Times
  • The University of Rochester’s Laboratory for Laser Energetics received $111M in federal funding from the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (a 17% increase from last year) and will use the funds to support nuclear fusion research for clean energy development.  News 10

  • With American Heart Month underway, RRH Sands-Constellation Heart Institute in Rochester, led by Dr. Randy Green (executive director), advises residents to check their heart health and learn about preventative care.  ABC 13

  • Voters can cast ballots for Faber Builders Boys Athlete of the Week covering Jan. 26-Feb. 1 as the online poll remains open until 8 p.m. Wednesday — the winner will be revealed on Instagram Thursday morning.  Democrat & Chronicle
