  • Lakeside Winter Celebration began Saturday at Ontario Beach Park with fun events including an ice sculpting contest, a chili cook-off with a $200 prize + a fireworks show set for 6:15 p.m. The event continues today at noon with a Polar Plunge for Special Olympics New York.  News 10
  • On Saturday, Jan. 31, a local couple won a $17,000-plus wedding package at the Winter Wedding Expo in Rochester (which showcased local wedding professionals offering cost-saving solutions for couples).  ABC 13

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • New York State Police urge drivers in Homer to clear snow and ice from vehicles to prevent hazards + a slab of ice broke off a tractor trailer on I-81 last Friday, striking a pickup truck.  News 10

CULTURE NEWS

  • Batavia Downs has announced the Rockin’ the Downs summer concert series that will run on Friday nights outdoors at the horse racing track from June 26 to August 14. The series will begin with The Spinners and include Quiet Riot, Village People, and Jo Dee Messina.  News 10
  • Today, Irondequoit Beer Company hosted the third 585 Stout Fest, where 15 local breweries offered dark stouts and Peter Ryan performed live music for beer enthusiasts in a winter celebration.  News 10
  • Jimmy Fallon made a surprise appearance at Mulconry’s Irish Pub in Greece on Saturday night — the pub opened Jan. 17 — where he chatted with patrons, served drinks, and recalled his annual visits before St. Patrick’s Day.  News 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Volunteer firefighters with the Cheshire Volunteer Fire Department cleared nearly 40 fire hydrants of snow on Saturday in their district to ensure hydrants were accessible for emergencies. The department thanked residents who helped keep hydrants clear near their homes.  News 10

HEALTH NEWS

  • Pittsford High School hockey teams hosted their annual Pink the Rink fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 31 at the Tim Hortons Iceplex in Brighton, raising over $120,000 for the Breast Cancer Coalition of Rochester. The event has supported research and services since 2010 (marking its tradition of cancer awareness).  ABC 13
