About this event
"How Putting Out Fires in Baker Led to a Career in Radical Organosulfur Chemistry and Drug Discovery"
Matthew Moschitto is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry at the Ernest Mario School of Pharmacy at Rutgers University. Matt obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine before moving to Cornell University for his Ph.D. in Chemistry. While at Cornell, he worked under the supervision of Chad Lewis on the synthesis of various natural products. In 2016, he moved to Northwestern University as a postdoctoral fellow to work with Richard Silverman on the synthesis and evaluation of small molecule inhibitors of aminotransferase enzymes for the treatment of epilepsy, addiction, and liver cancer. In 2019 he began his independent career at Rutgers University in New Jersey. Matt has focused his research on the synthesis and use of sulfonyl fluorides in drug discovery, work that spans the fields of synthetic methodology and medicinal chemistry. In his free time, he skis, hikes, and canoes with his dog, Cooper, who always resides in a high energy conformation.
